When I think of the topic of toxic relationships, I can’t help but think of myself. I have been in a relationship where I wasn’t comfortable but I just had to stay because i was receiving threats from my boyfriend that if I broke up with him, he was going to kill me and kill himself afterwards.
Knowing he was a person who had a great temper, there was fear in me for a long while. I stayed in that toxic relationship until I had enough momentum to say No.

Basically, people in toxic relationships aren’t so happy. I have experienced toxic relationships in three different relationship and trust me when I say, being in a toxic relationship can really blow your mind away. I mean literally blow your mind away, to the point where you’re not sure your brain still works.

Toxic relationships is a form of harmful relationship that drains and suffocates any kind of relationship. It’s important to note that any relationship can go toxic, whether it’s family, martial, friendship or romance. However, for the purpose of this article, we’d be focusing on romantic relationships.
A toxic romantic relationship can make an individual feel drained, depleted and sometimes even distraught. Being in a toxic relationship can have different impacts on different people, some people may feel drained, depleted and sometimes some of them may even feel distraught.
Toxic relationships comes along with emotional abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, social abuse, and in most cases cyber abuse. Whichever form these abuses come into a relationship to make it toxic.
It is certain that they all represent the internal turmoil that results from an unhealthy relationship that entails obvious dangers.
Toxic Relationships and People’s Expectations
We all desire and of course, deserve to feel safe, loved and happy in our romantic relationships. However, our failure to notice these incoming red flags of toxicity creeping in, keeps us from enjoying the relationship we desire.
Our expectations of a glorious and successful relationship is only possible if we learn to pay attention to these signs of a toxic relationship that leaves you feeling suffocated, toasted and sober.

As much as It’s advisable to separate yourself from a toxic relationship, understand the following and ensure to do as follows:

- Only continue a relationship where you feel safe and secure. Otherwise, discontinue.
- Know that a good relationship makes you feel happy, cared for, respected and free to be yourself

It is important for us as a couple or as a youth to understand that your relationship health depends greatly on the sacrifices you make for it. It is often said that nothing good is free.
As much as that quote doesn’t count as an undisputed truth, it certainly isn’t a lie after all. For a romantic relationship to be perfect and termed good, it had to be a relationship where both parties are actively working towards getting better.
